Action Fraud was established in the UK to allow consumers to report a scammer in a quicker and more convenient manner. Due to the increasing number of fraud cases in the UK, the government has decided to set up a center that will help make reporting and the facilitation of fraud report much easier, and as a result Action Fraud was formed. The Action Fraud center is under the management City of London Police and the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau. These two departments are closely working together to ensure that all fraud reports filed by the consumers are properly communicated to the authorities.

     Online Fraud Reporting Tool

The online fraud reporting tool is a secure online form that allows you to report a scammer and the details of the scam that you wish to report. This form is located in a different Web address, which begins in “https”. This means that all the information that you provide in this form is transmitted through a secure Internet connection, so you don’t have to worry about confidentiality and security when you file a report with Action Fraud. 

The online fraud reporting tool is composed of guide questions that will assist you in retelling how you have been scammed. It also includes questions about the scammer or the details that were provided to you by the suspect. In case you have any concern while filling up the form, you may click on the “Online advisors, live help” and online adviser should be available to help address your concern using the chat feature integrated within the site.
Note that you must complete filling up the online fraud reporting tool in one session so make sure that you have all the crucial information before you start to report a scammer through this online form. It would take around twenty to thirty minutes to finalize the form. Remember to review all the details you provided before you submit your report. This is to ensure that you didn’t miss anything important.

     Fraud Report by Phone

Aside from the online fraud reporting tool, Action Fraud also operates a hotline where you can report a scammer. This hotline is designed to accommodate those with limited Internet access or those who does not have the means to access the online complaint form.  The hotline number is 0300 123 2040. This hotline is manned by fraud specialists who can give you expert advice on the steps that you should take in order to resolve the scam that you just reported. The hotline is open from Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 6pm.
One of the special features of the hotline is it allows you to report a scammer anonymously, an option that is not available in the Action Fraud’s online fraud reporting tool. 

When you report a scammer, you are not only helping resolve your case, you are also empowering the government and businesses do their part to protect other potential victims.
