A survival guide to finding love offline.
Have you been reading all those scary dating scams stories?
Don’t want to put all your dating eggs in the online basket?  Never liked the online approach to romance,
anyway? Meeting someone face to face will automatically get rid of the main
advantage dating scams artists use, which is anonymity, the chance of hiding
behind a screen and even behind someone else’s picture. So, how do you actually
meet new people in real life? Is it as hard as finding a unicorn? Are they
living with Leprechauns at the end of rainbows? Do not despair! We’ve got you
covered; here are some alternative ways to meet people that don’t require a
subscription, or swiping right.
Try a new class. Gym class for instance will get your
endorphins going, making you feel good about yourself and about everything
around you keeping a happy disposition towards everyone that comes your way;
unless they are creeps, stay away from the gym creeps. Make sure to mix up the
classes you join so you don’t get stuck with the same people all the time! What,
you are a couch potato? No worries, join a movie club! It will most likely
include movie, dinner and drinks, perfect scenario to meet lots of people with
common interests.
Take your headphones out! Allow random strangers to talk to
you, you will never know what you are missing if you are blocking the outside
world. It’s ok to be scared of dating scams but you should not be scared of the world. Every now and then, put your headphones away and look around you, maybe
you will find someone you’d like to strike up a conversation with and even if
it doesn’t end in love, you will surely end up meeting really interesting
people.
Find your own community. Sometimes it seems all your friends
are caught up in their own hectic worlds and there’s no one available to do stuff
with. Find people that share your interests and create a new community of
friends. Meditation, yoga, cooking, trekking trips, bird watching, whatever it
is, there are more people out there that enjoy what you enjoy, so enjoy it
together! And, have you ever hear of yogi dating scams? Exactly, no risk of
that!
Join a team. Sports teams that compete with other teams are a
great option to meet lots of new people. First off, your new awesome team.
Then, the teams you will be playing against, with which you will most likely
enjoy happy hour after every game. It’s a win-win situation: happy hour and new
friends!
Meet other loners. We are all in this together! There are
plenty of parties of one out there, so what if they all get together? Are you
the only vegan in your group of friends? Join a vegan restaurant hopping group.
Nobody to read your favorite Russian authors with? Join a book club! Doesn’t
exist? Create it.
The premise of all these ideas is to enjoy your life and keep
away from those creepy online dating scams!Do the things you love, don’t put your
life on hold waiting for “the one” to come around. Once you stop looking, it
will pop out of what seems like nowhere.
