Reporting scam emails is necessary. This is one way of
putting a stop to the illegal activities of con artists. Using the information
of other people for business purposes without consent is a very serious
criminal offense. Whoever is apprehended with such acts will most likely be
imprisoned and will be asked to pay a huge amount of fine. Only then can the
victims truly say that they have earned justice for the crimes that were made
against them. This is the reason why reporting scam emails are highly encouraged
by the government.
Reporting Scam Emails to the Right Organizations
Reporting scam emails is easy. However, you need to make sure
that you are reporting them to the right people. Otherwise, your cries might
fall into deaf ears. When this happens, you will only end up getting frustrated
after finding out that nothing good will come out from your actions.
There are government agencies such as the Federal Trade
Commission and private entities, where you can report cases of fraud and email
scams. You can ask for their help and these entities may even give you some
tips that will help prevent becoming a victim again.
It’s not necessary that the one reporting scam emails is the same person who experienced it. There are instances when the victim himself is not
brave enough to report the crime. If you are a relative of the victim and you
know the whole details of the said incident, then you can report it to the
authorities instead. You just have to tell them the details and they will
confirm it with the victim.
Here are some of the agencies and organizations that can help
you with reporting scam emails:
1.      Federal Trade Commission
The Federal Trade Commission’s task
is to protect the consumers from any threats that may harm their business or
credit information. This is a government agency in the US that ensures a
harmonious trading system all over the country. You can file your complaint at
www.ftc.gov/complaint.
In the Federal Trade Commission’s
website, you will see various tips on how you can avoid becoming a victim of
scams. They also have tips and reminders for people who were once a victim of
these unfortunate scams. You can always learn a thing or two when you visit
this government controlled site.
2.      U.S Postal Inspection Service
This is another organization where
you can report scam incidents. However, you can only report scam incidents that
used the U.S Mail to deliver the mail. You can give them a copy of the scam
mail you have received and they will help you trace the sender’s whereabouts.
3.      www.USA.gov
This is the official website of the
US government. Here, you can find a specific tab that mainly caters to
complaints. By reporting scam incidents here, you can be sure that the
government will be involved in hunting those scammers who deceived you.
Reporting scam emails must only be done to any of the three
aforementioned organizations, if not all. This is to ensure that your complaint
will be acted on.
